Precious Pearls
November 30, 2009

There is a lot of documentation about buying pearls and little about caring for them. If you spend couple of thousand dollars on the gemstones, you might as well learn the dos and the don’ts.
Pearls are hard, but because of their preciousness they are considered fragile. Use a soft cloth and mild soap when cleaning them. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean them as they might be scratched. Proper storage always helps. Heat will affect your pearl’s color so keep them away from any of it, direct or indirect. Also do your entire make up first and put the pearls on as the last thing. This will avoid residue build up on them stones and they will look better that way.

I really loved reading your post! I love anythings antiques, but in particular engagement rings.
